Resident Banks Mill artist Clare Brooksbank is currently developing a project based on a series of painted portraits of mothers living on a local council estate. Clare is approaching arts organisations such as Arts Council to secure funding for this project.

Clare comments: “The idea of the project is to portray the diversity and individuality of the mothers. The images will show their personal interests and aspirations, showing the uniqueness of each person but also the viewer may feel empathy and familiarity with the women through shared interests or things in common.”

There will also be a short film alongside the paintings by film maker Keir Black that will emphasise the common thread in all women’s lives.

Clare has also secured some media interest in her story with both our local Derby Telegraph and the national newspaper, The Guardian expressing an interest in the project.
